Are these dumplings by any chance your take on, "Sui Gow" (Cantonese) aka "Xiu Cao" Vietnamese? I'm looking for what they are called in Mandarin. I use to live in the bay area and they were prevalent in Cantonese noodle soup joints and even Chinese/Vietnamese soup joints. I just can't seem to find them in LA. I know that sounds crazy since there are so many cities that boast Asian populations and miles and miles of restaurants but it has boggled me for a whole month since I moved down here. I've tried asking for Sui Gow. I've asked Cantonese speaking people where I can find it and they don't know.
Can you please help?

Hi Donna,

So glad you tried it! That's a good point about the squash cooking time. I actually had my squash for about a week and then baked it so perhaps that's why mine was already really soft when I baked for half an hour. Next tiem I cook it I"ll try to adjust the cooking time and see what happens with really fresh squash.

i made this tonight and found it very filling. However, my squash were not done in 30 min. - more like an hour and i still would have liked them a bit softer. I don't know if squash have to be ripe before using? Mine were rather hard, and not that orange-y color inside, more like a pale yellow (the label said Danish squash), and they were a bit large. But i would definitely make this again with hopefully better squash.

Hi Laura,

You can definitely use other oils. I would advise against using olive oil because it's too heavy and and the flavor for this recipe wouldn't be the greatest fit. You could try coconut, avocado or even walnut oil instead. Let me know how it goes!

These sound delicious! Would another oil, say coconut or olive, work in place of grapeseed?
